Jetpacks! is looking for someone to join our LatAm team as a Senior Backend Engineer. In this role, you'll lead the design and implementation of backend services and APIs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help shape what AI-native engineering looks like in practice, using tools like Cursor and Claude Code as core parts of your daily workflow, not just nice-to-haves.
This is a role for engineers who think in terms of "prompt →generate → validate → refine → ship" and who take full ownership of the correctness, security, performance, and maintainability of AI-assisted output.
• Lead the design and implementation of backend services, APIs, and data models.
• Collaborate effectively with a team of software engineers, product managers, and designers.
• Take ownership of individual items like bug fixes, enhancements, and new features, ensuring delivery meets engineering guidelines.
• Ship fast using modern, AI-augmented development workflows with tools like Cursor and Claude Code to prototype ideas, generate code, refactor safely, and learn new patterns.
• Write automated tests with Playwright and Jest to ensure quality and confidence in every release.
• Work with development teams and product managers to ideate and deliver software solutions that solve real-world problems.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Ceremonies, and other group discussions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade software as needed.
• Use AI tools pragmatically, know when to leverage ClaudeCode/Cursor for speed vs. when to hand-craft solutions.
• Review AI-generated code critically, ensuring security, performance, and maintainability standards are met.
• Define best practices for AI-assisted development.
• Debug across the stack: troubleshoot issues in API endpoints, database queries, and service integrations.
• Communicate trade-offs clearly, balancing speed, quality, and technical debt in fast-moving environments.
You'll be onboarded to the tech team organization. You will be part of a team and will communicate with them via Slack and Google Meet. Periodic 1-on-1 meetings will be held to ensure you are successful and are having a productive and enjoyable experience.

• 5+ years of experience working on production backend code for web applications.
• Experience working on web applications using Ruby on Rails, React, Redux, and GraphQL.
• Back-end proficiency in Ruby on Rails and Node.js/TypeScript; experience with testing using RSpec and Jest.
• Comfortable working in a containerized, cloud-based environment: Docker Compose for local development, AWS, and basic Kubernetes/Helm familiarity for operational tasks.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL, and familiarity with complementary data technologies such as Redis, RabbitMQ, and Elasticsearch.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot.
• Experience working in agile/scrum teams.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English and Spanish.
• Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Great attention to detail and ability to effectively solve complex problems.
• Advanced English level.
• Experience with Python and AI/ML tooling (e.g., AWS Bedrock).
• Eagerness to learn, grow, and uplift the entire team.
• Motivated to deepen knowledge and pursue continued learning.
